ASK Energy provides energy engineering consulting services to gas and electric utilities, as well as end-use customers, with a specialty in codes and standards, commercial and industrial strategic energy management, emerging technology studies, custom energy project assessment, energy audits,  and energy modeling.

Codes and Standards​

ASK Energy engineers have led multiple energy codes and standards efforts for California’s Title 24, Part 6 and ASHRAE 90.1. These complicated projects involve sensitive stakeholder engagement, public workshops and comment periods, technical energy and cost evaluations, language development, market research, and strict program policy guidelines. These efforts have resulted in new energy code language for laboratory fume hood controls, compressed air system controls and design, and steam system fault detection. ​

Strategic Energy Management (SEM)

ASK Energy serves as a technical lead on the SEM implementation team providing support in recruiting program participants, facilitating Treasure Hunts, identifying behavioral, operational, and capital opportunities, and populating scoping reports. ASK Energy verifies savings for the larger behavioral measures, as well as capital efficiency projects.​

Emerging Technology Studies

One of ASK Energy’s core competencies is the creative work done for emerging technology programs, frequently for public dissemination. We have performed numerous assessments of emerging and underutilized energy efficiency technologies with goals of utility program support, addressing market barriers, and advancement of consumer adoption. Emerging technology assessments require a unique combination of market research, stakeholder engagement, measurement and verification, field study, stakeholder management, energy modeling, and reporting at which ASK Energy excels. ​

Engineering Review
​

Energy efficiency, demand, and generation incentive programs require checks and balances to ensure accountability and accuracy of realized energy savings and project implementation. To these ends, ASK Energy engineers have reviewed and inspected many hundreds of incentive program applications. These reviews and inspections have covered technical, engineer rigor to ensure calculation accuracy as well as non-technical program requirements such as reviewing cost and application documentation. From performing this work for many different programs, technologies, and sectors, ASK Energy is capable of adapting review and inspection procedures to virtually any program rules and conditions. ​

Energy Audits

ASK Energy engineers have performed hundreds of energy audits across all building sectors and energy subsystems, from heavy industrial sites to schools. These have been provided both under the auspices of utility-supported programs and direct to individual building owner-operators. We are well-versed in the tenets of ASHRAE Level I-III audits and can provide simple measure identification and scoping to full, investment-grade project assessments. ASK Energy’s audit services can be tailored to any particular customer or program needs with scopes of work suited to the needs at hand. We can provide site-wide audits as well as study individual projects, providing all the energy and cost impacts necessary for project prioritization and the decision-making process. ​

Energy Modeling

Energy modeling of equipment, subsystems, and whole buildings is a key pillar of the efficiency industry. ASK Energy is proficient in energy modeling using both custom, from-scratch calculations to whole-building software tools such as eQuest and EnergyPro. We work with customers to gather all available information and data so that our calibrated energy models are reliable and sufficient for both programs and capital investment decision-making. ​
